How can the risk of developing cold sores (Herpes Simplex) after lip coloring (lip rejuvenation) be prevented?

In individuals carrying the Herpes Simplex virus, the virus remains dormant in the nerve roots. During lip coloring, thousands of micro-needle strokes are applied to the lip tissue; this mechanical trauma locally weakens the nerve endings and immune system in that area. The dormant virus takes advantage of this trauma and immediately becomes active, developing into widespread, painful cold sores on the lips. These sores prevent the dye from adhering to those areas, leaving gaps (spots). To prevent this risk, individuals with a history of cold sores should begin antiviral (containing acyclovir) medication at least 3 days before the procedure, as recommended by their physician, and continue it afterward.
