What is the main difference between Botox and fillers? Are they the same thing?

Update date: 8 January 2026

No, they have completely different mechanisms.

  • Botox: It works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles. It “freezes” wrinkles or prevents the muscle from folding the skin. (e.g., frown lines, crow’s feet). It does not add volume.

  • Filler: As the name suggests, it fills the void. It adds volume under the skin to raise depressions or shape the face. (e.g., lip augmentation, cheekbone enhancement).
