Perifollicular edema refers to small, red bumps and swellings, similar to mosquito bites, that form around the hair follicles immediately after a laser shot. This is definitely not an allergy or a problem; rather, it is the clearest sign of “success,” indicating that the laser beam has reached the hair follicle precisely, generated sufficient heat energy, and damaged the root. It usually disappears spontaneously within a few hours, or at most within 24 hours, after the procedure. Using aloe vera or barrier-repairing creams is sufficient to soothe it.
