What is “vascular occlusion” (blood vessel blockage), a rare condition seen after filler injections, and how is it treated urgently?

Vascular occlusion occurs when injected filler material accidentally enters a blood vessel or exerts excessive external pressure on the vessel, completely stopping blood flow to that area. This is one of the most serious complications of medical aesthetics. Symptoms include sudden, severe pain in the treated area and whitening of the skin (ischemia), followed by a purplish-lace color. In such a case, as an emergency intervention, a high dose of the enzyme “Hyaluronidase,” which dissolves the hyaluronic acid blocking the vessel within seconds, is injected into the area. Warm compresses are applied to increase blood flow, and vasodilator treatments are initiated.
