Furthermore, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, levels of progesterone, estrogen, and prolactin hormones peak in a woman’s body. This hormonal fluctuation makes the skin excessively susceptible to melasma (blemishes) and also makes the success of the laser treatment unpredictable. Since sudden pain or stress experienced by the mother can also affect the baby, medically, the procedure is postponed until after the first six months of breastfeeding and when hormone levels have stabilized.
