What is the “Russian Lips” technique for lip fillers, and how does it differ from normal filler techniques?

Update date: 11 June 2026

In traditional lip filler techniques, the filler is injected horizontally into the lip, creating both volume and a forward projection (sometimes a duck lip appearance). Russian Lips, however, is based on injecting the filler vertically into the lip contour in numerous micro-droplets. The goal is not to inflate the lip, but to fold the pink tissue upwards and downwards, creating a “flat surface.” It is an excellent technique for shortening the upper lip (philtrum) and creating a more defined Cupid’s bow (lip heart).
