In a carbon peeling procedure, a special lotion containing black activated carbon is first applied to the skin, and left for 10-15 minutes to allow the carbon particles to penetrate deep into the pores. Then, shots are fired with a Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser. As soon as the laser beam detects the black carbon particles, it vaporizes the carbon from the skin’s surface with a sudden photo-acoustic burst. During this burst, micro-heat damage occurs in the pore walls, causing the pores to contract and tighten instantly. At the same time, the seborrheic (oil) glands are heated, suppressing sebum production and resolving the problem of excess oiliness and shine on the skin.
