LED phototherapy (light therapy) stimulates cellular activity by sending light energy at specific wavelengths to the skin. Blue light (415 nm) targets “porphyrin,” a substance produced by the P. acnes bacteria that cause acne, initiating a chemical reaction that destroys the bacteria from within; thus, it provides direct antibacterial treatment. Red light (630 nm) penetrates deeper, stimulating the cytochrome c oxidase enzyme, increasing ATP (cellular energy) production, accelerating blood circulation, and reducing inflammation (swelling), thus promoting faster tissue healing and preventing acne scarring. Acne protocols often combine both.
